B&H Photo was having a sale on the Sony a7 so I decided to go with it instead of the Canon 6D. It worked out since after trying both of them last week I found the EVF was pretty awesome.
They threw in a free Rode microphone, extra OEM battery and took $30 off an external charger. Being in California I got to skip the sales tax too. B&H are awesome!
And now for some shameless self-promotion. Here is my Flickr with pics from a local C&C and this year’s Car Week in Monterey.

Have a 911 2.7rs Lightweight and a Lancia Flaminia I saw for your time.

Haha credit where it’s due, your advice and feedback was what helped persuade me to go the a7 route. So thank you. Although my wallet certainly feels different haha.

I highly reccomend downloading capture one express for sony. The sony version is free and the pro sony version is only $50. The software was made in close collaboration with Sony. It will render the ARW files ten times better than light room.
If you decide to start using it, just wait till you take an over exposed image, juat drag the “highlights” bar down and you will see the reason why I can not go back to a smaller sensor.
Also, I hope you love your A7 as much as I love mine. Also, pro tip get 2 more batteries, 4 batteries is the minimum you should have.

Cool. I’ll give that a try since there is currently a rebate on the pro version.
Super excited for my first shot with a full frame sensor. It looks HUGE compared to my friend’s NEX-3’s aps-c sensor. I noticed the highlights on a smaller sensor tend to start going very grey very fast when trying to rescue an overexposed shot.
My wallet weeps at that. I was planning on getting a Konica 57mm 1.2 off eBay to try out manual focus in a few months. Might as well toss in some more batteries into that mix as well.
What’s your view on the Watson and Wasabi batteries? I hear they have a higher mAh rating so they should last longer than OEM but I’m apprehensive about going aftermarket for something important like batteries.

The ability to fix screw-ups on the A7 is amazing. For example, these are both the same picture.
I’ve never used a konika. Though I would go for something lighter. If you’re buying a vintage ƒ/1.2 lens to use at 1.2, you are going to be disappointed. The A7 is much more demanding than film and will make almost any fast old lens wide open a chromatic aberration soft mess. I don’t even mean “dreamy” it doesn’t look nice. That said, there are exceptions, I hear that the Canon 50mm ƒ/1.4 FDn performs decent wide open. Also 56mm seems a bit too telescopic for my tastes, but that’s a matter of personal preference.
I have four Wasabis and one Sony battery. I really can not tell a difference between the two even in the area of construction they’re almost exactly the same! They look like they could of been made in the same factory.

Good grief! That sky recovery is amazing.
Now that’s a shame to hear. I’ll have to investigate further since there are some who have been using that lens. I might just bite the bullet and save up for a Loxia or Batis. I found I slightly favor the telescopic range since I like doing detail shots. Although that’s probably since my scenic shots are not that great.
Awesome. Do you use a Sony charger for them? Or do you absolutely need the Wasabi charger for the Wasabi batteries?

I’m going to buy the 35mm ƒ/2.8 and most likely get the 55mm ƒ/1.8 for christmas. They both look like awesome lenses. My rational is that I can easily carry the 35 around with me daily but if i want to go do something specific or something in low light I can bring the 55 with me.

Also, no you do not need to use a wasabi charger. They are built just like sony batteries and should fit into the charger all the same

I find I get more shots with Wasabi and a few other Non-oems. Just last week I got 700 shots on one battery. (i’m also turning my camera off and on a lot). I’m paranoid still about them exploding, so I never charge them in camera and only use the charger that came with them. I might be paranoid though.

I’ve never had a reason to be worried about them. Also I’m not too sure how many shots I get out of a battery. I typically only use about 50% on average and come out with about 250 pictures. I also use manual lenses which probobly saves some life. But if I had to guestimate I would say I get around 500 shots out of a battery with normal usage.
